Web Hosting and Colocation Data Facility

From our downtown Portland data facility at the Pittock building, Canvas Dreams provides comprehensive Web hosting and colocation services. Whether you need space for a single 1U rackmount server or a multi-cabinet infrastructure, our colocation and bandwidth offerings are competitively priced and custom designed for your exact specifications.

To ensure the security of all your hardware, Canvas Dreams offers on-site support and personally monitors all maintenance performed on colocation equipment. Cabinets and caged racks are secured through multiple keylock entry and 24/7 video surveillance, and our highest-security facilities offer further protection through biometric checkpoints. When a customer asks to perform maintenance on their equipment, a member of our staff is always present to personally ensure the integrity and security of all our clients' equipment.

Shared Colocation

Our standard service involves colocating your equipment alongside other clients' hardware in a shared, fully-enclosed and locked, fan-cooled 42U (rack unit) Liebert cabinet. Our shared colocation plans are designed for clients having less than 20U of equipment.

Fully redundant, UPS-backed, conditioned electricity is included in each shared colocation plan.

Private Single- and Double-Cabinets

For larger clients with greater colocation rackspace needs, Canvas Dreams offers private single and double-width Liebert cabinets.

We provide standard Cat-6 cabling or fiber optics, mounted directly into the cabinet for your use, which are connected to a switch behind one of our core colocation routers. Double cabinets offer added security in that your network cabling remains inside the cabinet structure at all times.

Each full cabinet space includes one 20A circuit. Additional electrical circuits are available.

High-Security Caged Racks and Full Cages

For clients in need of colocation with the highest level of security, Canvas Dreams offers both shared and private, locked, caged racks in our ultra high security center. Entry to the facility is guarded by two biometric hand-scanner checkpoints, accessible only by Canvas Dreams personnel.

FLS (fire, life, safety) systems include early warning laser Vesda, FM 200 gas suppression, dry pipe preaction, smoke detectors above and below the raised floor, 64 surveillance cameras, and 24/7 monitoring of all infrastructure components.

Optional in-cage, password-protected web cams are available so you can independently monitor your equipment from any Internet-accessible location.

Connectivity and Bandwidth Monitoring

From over two dozen available network providers, Canvas Dreams selected what we considered the top three: AT&T (our primary connection), and MCI and Sprint (backup carriers). We are currently working to secure Level3 as a fourth carrier, which will service the high-speed data needs of our international customers.

We offer incremental, burstable bandwidth for all colocation clients, from 1Mbps up to multi-Gigabit fiber. For clients with specific bandwidth needs, we can set up dedicated cross connects from any of 29 fiber- or Ethernet-based carriers. Gigabit and peered cross-connects are also available upon request.

Bandwidth usage is measured via SNMP monitoring tools (MRTG and Cacti) and calculated to the 95th percentile. Our bandwidth pricing is structured to offered greater discounts on a tiered basis. The more bandwidth you use, the greater your per-Megabit savings.

Power Plant Specifications

In plain English, we have ample power for even the most demanding systems. Our data facility is supported by nine electrical feeds off the main Portland grid.

Details of the in-house power plant include:

• Primary Electrical Service: 15,000Amp/480VAC
• Secondary Electrical Service: 12,000Amp/208VAC
• UPS Units: Six 500kVA systems, two 225kVA systems, two 150kVA systems, one 80kVA system, and numerous smaller systems totaling about 3,000,000 watts of capacity
• 1600 Amp/48VDC plant
• Cooling Capacity: 1300 tons
• Generators: 8.5 megawatts of generation capacity; 8,500,000 watts of capacity

Diesel Backup Power

Five 50,000 Watt Diesel backup generators ensure uninterrupted connectivity for up to 48 hours without refueling.

As critical infrastructure is located within the facility, the building benefits from being at the top of the list for refueling. This means that should the facility experience an extended outage, the backup generators are guaranteed direct refueling before any other provider. No other data facility in Oregon has this type of energy security. If you don't believe us, just ask around.
